Thank you and congratulations for being part of the new Facilities Planning Committee. Your willingness to serve our community in this important capacity with the establishment of this Facilities Planning Committee (FPC) marks a significant milestone for our town. This administration appreciates the generosity to contribute your time and expertise as we value your commitment to molding Monroe’s future.
All of you are all taking on a responsibility that will shape the quality, safety, and functionality of our public schools and municipal facilities for decades. Whether evaluating existing buildings, planning new construction, or recommending long term capital strategies, your efforts will directly influence how effectively our residents are served.
I ask that all of you approach this task with the thoughtful deliberation it deserves, prioritizing the recent information obtained by the diligence of the Ad Hoc Committee regarding Chalk Hill School, looking into urgent Capital Projects and also developing a 5-, 10-, and 20-year vision for all our town owned buildings.
This committee will have the full support of my office, our municipal staff, the Superintendent of Schools, and the education facilities management. We will ensure you have access to the information, resources and professional guidance necessary to carry out your mission.
The nature of this committee will be highly collaborative, however, I emphasize the importance of independent judgement, as it is essential. It is paramount to develop vital communication to the general public and to proceed with the recognition and understanding regarding the importance of fiscal responsibility. I know this group will seek out different perspectives, ask difficult questions and ground recommendations with real-time data while considering the overall experience that our citizens and visitors rely on from our facilities every day.
Our office staff is at your disposal for initial organization until such time that leadership is chosen. Any member not sworn in at Town Council can do so in our office or with our Town Clerk.
Thank you for your service to Monroe,
Terrence P. Rooney,
First Selectman
