Monroe fire chief deems storage barn a total loss after blaze

This storage barn on Judd Road was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived Wednesday morning.

MONROE, Conn. — The fire marshal is investigating the cause of a storage barn fire on Judd Road, which was extinguished by firefighters late Wednesday morning.

“There were no injuries and no damage to the home on the property,” Monroe Fire Chief Kevin Catalano said. “The barn is a total loss as it was fully engulfed on arrival. There are no hydrants in that neighborhood, so tanker trucks from Monroe and Newtown shuttled multiple loads of water to the scene.”

The fire call came in just after 10 a.m.

Catalano said 20 volunteer firefighters from Stepney, Monroe and Stevenson operated on scene until about 12:30 p.m., adding the Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service and police also responded to the emergency call.

The Long Hill Fire Department covered a fire alarm on Main Street during the barn fire and stayed in Monroe in the event of any additional fire calls.
