MONROE, Conn. — Residents can bring their unused medications to the Monroe Police Department, 7 Fan Hill Road, for safe disposal this Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Police said to make sure liquids are tightly sealed, adding they will not accept needles.
The event is for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.
“Take Back Day is an important reminder for residents to take stock of the medications in their homes and safely dispose of anything that is no longer needed,” said Irina Butler, executive director of the Pharmaceutical Product Stewardship Group, which oversees MyOldMeds.com.
“While these biannual events help encourage people to safely clear out their unused or expired medications, safe medication disposal is a year-round need,” she continued. “Through MyOldMeds.com, Connecticut residents can locate the 237 free, year-round disposal sites across the state, making it easy to dispose of medications safely at any time.”
The Monroe police station has a disposal drop box in its lobby.
