MONROE, Conn. — A 38-year-old Jockey Hollow Road woman turned herself in on a warrant charging her with cruelty to animals on April 6.
On Feb. 2, Monroe Animal Control responded to a call about a roaming pit bull in the area of Pepper Street and Jockey Hollow Road around 1:45 p.m. A passerby corralled the dog and animal control officers noticed the pit bull was significantly emaciated with extensive hair loss and appeared to be weak and cold.
Animal Control brought the dog to a veterinary clinic for an evaluation after notifying the animal’s owner of its poor condition. Police said the veterinarians confirmed that the dog was malnourished and needed to be with someone who would care for it appropriately.
“The most recent veterinary report the owner could produce was from 2021, when the dog was exhibiting many of the same issues — except it was 19 pounds heavier that time,” Police Lt. Kevin McKellick said.
The pet owner was released after posting seven percent of her $7,500 court set bond for an April 15 court date.
