MONROE, Conn. — A 23-year-old Newtown woman was charged with DUI after crashing her 2017 Mazda CX3 into a fence in the 200-block of Fan Hill Road Friday night, according to police.
At approximately 11:08 p.m., officers responding to the call arrived to see the driver still at the wheel of the vehicle, revving the engine and spinning its tires, police said.
She reportedly told officers she was driving north on Fan Hill when she noticed five deer in the road, stopped the vehicle, put it in reverse, then went over the curb and struck a fence on the property.
Though she said she was not hurt, Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated her at the scene.
While speaking to the driver, police said officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her and she admitted to having two drinks earlier in the evening.
Field sobriety tests were not performed to standard, leading to her arrest, and breath tests at headquarters showed a blood alcohol level above the legal limit, according to police.
She was charged with DUI, failure to drive in the proper lane and unsafe backing, then released after posting seven percent of her $500 bond for a March 24 court date.
