To the Editor:
First Selectman Terry Rooney and his administration leading the town of Monroe helped assuage our concerns when my wife and I moved from Fairfield last year. We were reassured by Mr. Rooney’s fiscally conservative approach to town government that our choice was prescient.
Monroe schools have a stellar reputation and this year’s budget reaffirms the progress Mr. Rooney has initiated under his stewardship. In addition, this years taxes were subjected to a reevaluation that Mr. Rooney rightly decided not to postpone.
The continued increase in the grand list and Mr.Rooney’s attention to maintaining Monroe’s natural zoning parameters and controls of budgetary spending allocations have contributed to the town’s harbinger of a favorable outlook for the future.
It’s unfortunate that the Democrat Party in Monroe has decided to waste taxpayer money and town resources on nonsensical FOI requests, which will have no direct bearing on residents.
Mr.Rooney’s reputation has been tarnished from the opposing candidate and his character besmirched by falsehoods in an effort to gain a favorable outcome on election day. To his credit, the first selectman has not denigrated himself by lowering his standards to the slimy level utilized by the opposing party.
Monroe taxpayers and voters deserve to have Mr. Rooney at the helm, with conservative fiscal management and favorable credit agency ratings, we will all reap the rewards from his efforts to keep Monroe prosperous.
I strongly encourage all to signify their faith through their vote on election day for Mr. Rooney and the entire Republican team of candidates.
Sincerely Yours,
Jack and Suzanne Testani

I didn’t realize that asking the First Selectman to provide contracts and invoices for the services that the taxpayers are paying for was “slimy” and “nonsensical”. Perhaps, the authors and or other Rooney surrogates can enlighten the Democratic Party and indeed Republicans and unaffiliated voters on that one.
The only recourse to the First Selectman’s refusal to even partially respond is to do what Mr. Vaglivelo did: file a Freedom of Information Complaint.
When elected two years ago, the First Selectman pledged “transparency “. (Monroe Sun 11/28/23). Monroe taxpayers would appreciate it if he lived up to that pledge.
Words are important in how they are presented. Mr Martin refers to Mr. Vaglivelo’s FOI request, is just that, a request. To characterize this as a ‘compliant’’ is being disingenuous. Especially from someone presenting themselves as an expert on the subject. An FOI request can become a compliant if said request is not producing the info that has been requested. To my knowledge this is not the case. Which is it, are you an expert, or are you being intentional misleading?
