MONROE, CT — The Masuk girls cross country team swept to victories at its home meet at Great Hollow Lake Monday afternoon, beating Bunnell 17-40, Immaculate 25-30, and Kolbe Cathedral 20-37, as five Panthers finished in the top 10.
Abigail Cappola had a third place finish (22:42), Emma Sheppard came in fourth (22:43), Katheryn Majersky finished sixth (23:47), Nikol Kupieieva ninth (25:07), and Allie Benedetto was 10th (25:27).
“I was very, very happy with how the girls team did at the meet,” said Masuk Coach Jennifer Nyquist. “There were several PRs.”
Nyquist said Isabella Vieira, who finished 29th (38:46), shaved two minutes off the time of her last race and newcomer, Ella Rudewicz (28th, 37:58) finished her first race.
“I am very proud of all the girls and the effort they’ve put into every practice,” Nyquist said. “Their hard work is definitely paying off in terms of dropped times. Honestly, the best thing about this team is the camaraderie they have with one another. They enjoy each other’s company and they truly respect each other. What’s better than that?”
Among the other Panther finishes, Emily Barnhart came in 19th (26:54), Christina McKellick 22nd (31:28) and Brigitte LaRiviera 24th (33:33).
Masuk’s next meet will be Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Bethel High School at 5 p.m., when the Panthers compete against Bethel and Newtown.
