Masuk girls soccer earns hard-fought wins and a tie

Masuk goalkeeper Kara Leandres makes a save during a game this season.

MONROE, CT — Masuk’s girls soccer team has gone unbeaten in its last four games. The Panthers followed up back-to-back 4-1 wins at home over Weston and Sacred Heart Academy Sept. 11 and 13, with a 4-3 road victory over New Fairfield on Sept. 16 and then a 1-1 tie with visiting Notre Dame Prep on Sept. 18.

In the win over Sacred Heart, Olivia Fanning scored twice and Alex Cecchino and Clare Fulchino each had goals. Masuk goalkeeper Kara Leandres made some big saves to preserve the lead in the second half.

The Panthers, after outscoring a tough New Fairfield squad and finishing in a deadlock with perennial conference title hopeful Notre Dame, will visit Bunnell of Stratford Saturday at 1 p.m.
