MONROE, CT — Jockey Hollow Middle School’s boys and girls cross country team has been logging miles after school, as its 49 students run along the track, through paths in the woods and on roads and up hilly terrain. It’s all to improve their times in distances of 1.5 to 2 miles.

Each session begins with a team meeting, where goals are set for practice and upcoming meets.

“As a team, we stretch and prepare for a distance run,” Head Coach Robert Troesser said. “On many occasions the team will run one mile, which is four laps around Jockey Hollow. We focus on safety first, respect for each other, working together as a team and having fun. Practice ends with our team cheer, ‘one two, three! Jockey Hollow!'”

The Lions Cross Country team invites members of the public to come to its meet and cheer its runners on.

Here is the team’s upcoming schedule:

Thursday, Sept. 18, at Bethel Middle School, 4 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 25, at Great Hollow Lake versus Newtown, Bethel and Hillcrest, 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 1, a home meet at Great Hollow Lake against Fairfield Woods and Madison, 4 p.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Newtown Middle School, 4 p.m.
