Masuk Panthers to lace it up for first race at New Milford Tuesday

Brayden Hershberger, left, and Sebastian Riera race in the SWC Championship meet in 2024. Both runners are back in the fold this fall.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s boys cross country team is off and running with preseason preparation complete and the first race just around the corner.

Masuk is led by captain Brayden Hershberger. The Panthers also have returning All-SWC runner Sebastian Riera along with Filip Wadolkowski, Jahdami Reid and Dylan McKellick to round out the top five.

The Panthers finished 16th at the Class MM State Championship and 10th at SWCs.

“Our goal is to improve on this and finish in the top half of both championships,” Coach Seamus O’Reilly said. “We are very top-heavy — we don’t have a lot of runners, but we’re gonna compete with each team’s best.”

Meets begin this Tuesday, Sept. 9, with a visit to New Milford at 4:30 p.m. Masuk has a handful of multi-team meets that lead up to the Oct. 15 SWC Championships at Bethel High starting at 3 p.m.
