Masuk girls lacrosse beaten, softball and baseball home Saturday

The Masuk lacrosse team defends in its SWC tourney semifinal game.

MONROE, CT — The South-West Conference playoffs continue at Masuk High during the Memorial Day Weekend. The No. 2 girls lacrosse team fell 12-4 to visiting and No. 3 Newtown in the semifinals on Friday night.

Emma Troesser, Eve Fernandez, Bailey Bajda and Maya Tomaszewski all scored in the defeat.

Newtown dominated the draws and overall possession game and built an 8-1 halftime lead on the way to avenging both a regular-season defeat and last year’s SWC semifinal loss to the Panthers.

The defending state champion Panthers will look to bounce back in the state playoffs. Newtown will face top seed New Fairfield in the SWC title game Tuesday at WestConn (4:30 p.m.).

Two teams home Saturday

The softball and baseball teams will be home for SWC quarterfinal games Saturday as the No. 2 softball team hosts No. 7 New Fairfield at 3 p.m. and the No. 3 baseball team entertains No. 6 New Milford at 4 o’clock. The games were pushed back from original times to allow for fields to dry out following rain on Friday.

The softball team finished in a three-way tie for first with Brookfield and Newtown. A draw determined seedings and Brookfield got the top spot and Newtown the third seed.
