Binky Patrol celebrates 11 years

The Monroe/Trumbull chapter of Binky Patrol is celebrating its 11th anniversary this year, as well as a milestone of donating 25,000 handmade blankets to children in need. These “binkies” have been lovingly created by dedicated volunteers working independently or participating in local community events.

Throughout the year, the Monroe-Trumbull chapter distributes binkies to local hospitals, social service agencies like the Center for Family Justice, and directly to children facing difficult circumstances.

Over the past year alone, the chapter has sent 600 blankets to Altadena, California to comfort young wildfire victims, delivered blankets to children enrolled in Bridgeport Head Start, and provided over 400 blankets  to campers at organizations such as Camp Hope and Camp Kesem. Additionally, they have responded to several school communities following tragic events.

The need for binkies never stops. The chapter’s current focus is restocking local hospitals with fresh deliveries. Volunteers of all skill levels are invited to help—whether through knitting, crocheting, quilting, or making no-sew fleece tie blankets.

Community support has been instrumental to the chapter’s success, with generous local businesses and organizations serving as drop-off locations, including:

  • Edith Wheeler Memorial Library (Monroe)
  • Last Drop Coffee Shop (Monroe)
  • JBagels and Cafe (Trumbull)
  • Vaughn Family Dentistry (Trumbull and Milford)
  • RPM Automotive Repair (Bethany)
  • Saugatuck Sweets (Fairfield)
  • Seymour Congregational Church (Seymour)

“Our goal is simple: to brighten a child’s day and remind them that they are not invisible,” said chapter founder and coordinator Jeanne Malgioglio.

For information on how to contribute, donate, or get involved, e-mail Jeanne Malgioglio at ctbinky@binkypatrol.org.
