Records broken as Masuk boys make splash heading into Class M meet

Jack McHugh competes in a meet earlier this season.

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s boys swim team had a phenomenal meet at the Class M State Trials, held at Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford on Saturday. Almost every swimmer got a best time in their events and some school record times were recorded. The Panthers will look to continue that success in the Class M Championships, also at Cornerstone, Monday afternoon.

In the trials, Masuk started out strong and made a statement in the 200 yard medley relay placing first in its heat and third overall in the event for Class M. The relay team consists of Jack McHugh, Carter Adragna, Mason Eannotti and Brendan Kirberger and finished with a time of 1:41:09.

Kirberger placed first in his heat of the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:44:04. He broke his own record by less than a second and set a new Masuk High School record.

Adragna was first in his heat of the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21:98. He finished third overall in Class M in that event. Sophomore, Akkie (Akshaj) Yerragudi placed first in his heat of the 500 free with a time of 5:17:12, cutting 18 seconds off his best time. Kirberger was first overall in the 500 with a time of 4:41:48.

Adragna placed second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01:34 which broke the Masuk High record.

The meet ended with an exciting 400 freestyle relay race. Masuk placed third with a school record-setting time of 3:18:13. The relay team consisted of Kirberger, McHugh, Eannotti, and Adragna.

The 200 medley relay team and 400 free relays both made the State Finals. In total, seven Panthers qualified for the championships in at least one individual event.
