Masuk girls basketball teams caps regular season on winning note

Bailey Bajda, in action during a win over Amistad last week, had another big night with 21 points in a victory over Weston on Thursday.

MONROE, CT — Sharp 3-point shooting from Bailey Bajda and Grace Sheppard — four apiece from beyond the arc — coupled with a solid defensive effort from the second quarter on lifted the Masuk High girls basketball team to 58-25 win over visiting Weston on Thursday night.

The Panthers and Trojans were locked in a high-scoring battle, a 16-16 tie, after one quarter. From there, the Masuk offense stayed hot while Weston was stymied. The Panthers outscored the Trojans 17-2 in the second quarter for a 33-18 halftime lead and allowed only seven points after the break.

Bajda finished with 21 points and Sheppard had 18. Abby Troesser added seven and Maddie Farrer tacked on five.

The Panthers, who were coming off a 42-28 loss to Joel Barlow on Monday, finished the regular season with a 13-7 overall record and 8-5 mark in the South-West Conference. The SWC Tournament begins Wednesday. Masuk’s first-round opponent is yet to be determined.
