Senior Night success as Masuk boys wind down

MONROE, CT — Masuk High’s boys basketball team defeated visiting Joel Barlow of Redding 69-52 in Monday’s Senior Night clash. The Panthers capped off their South-West Conference season with a 70-57 setback at Weston on Thursday to finish at 7-6 in conference play.

Masuk (12-7 overall) will have one more game, when Shelton visits on Saturday at 12 p.m. in a game that will impact the state rankings.

Then it is on to the SWC Tournament beginning on Wednesday (opponent to be determined).

The Panthers are looking to get back to their winning ways from Senior Night. In that game Mitch DeBernardo racked up 34 points to go along with three assists and four steals. DeBernardo hit five 3-pointers, three of which came in his 16-point outburst in the third quarter as Masuk scored 25 to pull away.

Alex Simoulidis had 16 points, three assists, five rebounds and five steals, nailing four 3-pointers along the way.

Saijon Gavin had six points and two assists; Oliver Irving scored four points and had three assists and four rebounds; Stephen Sentementes scored three points and had four assists, five rebounds and four steals; Jayden Cassese had two points, four assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals; and Chris Welch added two points, two rebounds, three steals and had no turnovers.
