Former Fawn Hollow educator Barbara Ehmer remembered fondly

Barbara Joan Landes Ehmer, 89, passed away Monday, December 9, 2024 at Brightview Senior Living in Norwalk. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard H. Ehmer and mother to the late Ashley R. Welde.

Born in Quakertown, Penn., in 1935, Barbara was the daughter of Edward Harold Landes and Ethel Marie Alderfer Landes. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, in Nursing and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Bridgeport.

Over her career, she worked as a registered nurse, a researcher, an educator, and President of the Paraprofessional Union in Connecticut. Barbara lived in Monroe for over 50 years and had worked at Fawn Hollow Elementary School.

She loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, as well as Egypt and China. She loved movies, cardinals and spending time with good friends.

She is survived by her brother, Steven Landes; son-in-law, Jack Welde Jr.;  grandchildren, Jackson and JaneMarie Welde; and step-grandson, Jake Welde.

A funeral service to honor Barbara’s life will be held at a later date in Telford, Penn. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in Herriman, Utah.

  1. Monroe lost a giant with the passing of Don Koneff. Don was an amazing man, giving and caring about his community and his family.
    He was funny, stubborn, opinionated, and generous of his time and talents
    I knew not to ask Dons thoughts if I didn’t want to hear the absolute truth , but the same time I knew he was really listening and would give me his honest evaluation.
    I will miss his laugh and wit so much.
    Rest in Peace Don.
