Stepney Unstoppables support Viki Soto 5K honoring late Sandy Hook teacher

On Saturday, the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater overflowed with energy and camaraderie as educators, administrators, and community members came together for the annual Viki Soto 5K. This event honors the memory of Viki Soto, a beloved teacher who courageously lost her life protecting her students during the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Viki Soto’s legacy is one of selflessness, bravery, and dedication to her students. Her story has resonated deeply within the education community and beyond, inspiring countless individuals to uphold her values of love and protection in their own lives. The 5K run serves as a powerful reminder of her impact and the difference one dedicated teacher can make.

Among the participants were the Stepney Unstoppables, a spirited group of educators and administrators from the Monroe School district, led by the enthusiastic Suzanne Cassone. The group showcased the collective strength and unity of the education sector, embodying the spirit of resilience and commitment to honoring Viki’s legacy.

The event is more than just a race; it is a celebration of community, and friendship. Participants, including Joseph Kobza, the superintendent of Monroe Public Schools, along with Mike Crowley, administrator of curriculum and instruction for the district, and many educators from Stepney Elementary School, enjoyed a morning filled with laughter, stories, and a shared commitment to a great cause. The atmosphere was one of encouragement and positivity!

Funds raised from the Viki Soto 5K support educational scholarships and initiatives that continue Viki’s mission of fostering education and student safety. The event also serves to promote awareness and inspire positive change within schools and communities.
