MONROE, CT — It was a win-win-win week for the Masuk High girls swim and dive team, as the Panthers defeated visiting Bunnell of Stratford 95-75 on Oct. 4, Lena Savkovic won an individual accolade, and the team supported a good cause.
Masuk’s meet against Bunnell was also the team’s Think Pink fundraiser. The girls wore pink caps to support breast cancer awareness, sold merchandise and collected donations.
What’s more, Savkovic earned recognition as Jersey Mike’s Player of the Week for her efforts in the team’s 90-75 win over New Milford on Sept. 26, placing first in both of her individual events. She had a PR in one event, and was on both winning relay teams in that meet.
Against Bunnell the 200 yard medley relay team of Savkovic, Lucia Morales, Izzy Murzinska and Skye Eanotti placed first in 2:05.52.
Savkovic won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.24. Eanotti was first in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:38.53. Murzinska won the 50 free in 27.52.
Carly Jordan won the diving event with a score of 196.25.
Morales took first in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.04. Eanotti was first in the 100 free in 1:03.62. Tierney McGunnigle won the 500 in 6:27.95.
Masuk sealed the team victory and exhibitioned the rest of the way. The 200 free relay of Savkovic, Murzinska, Eanotti and Morales had the fastest time, finishing in 1:57.37.
Savkovic finished the 100 backstroke in 1:06.88. Morales competed the 100 breaststroke race in 1:14.65.
The 400 relay of Stella Oliveria, Betty Glus, Laney Stilway and Ishani Tyagi finished in 4:38.42.
