MONROE, CT — Burglars smashed a window by the front door of Area 51 Smoke Shop, 525 Main St., to gain entry, before stealing an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and CBD products, including gummies and oils, early Tuesday morning.
An employee of the Starbucks next door told officers the window was intact when he arrived for work around 4:30 a.m., but he later noticed broken glass on the sidewalk at 6:45 a.m.
Another Starbucks employee told police she saw a black vehicle in the parking lot, which surveillance footage later showed was a BMW. Police said four suspects were seen exiting the vehicle.
Detectives processed the scene and will continue reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation.
Another store window was reportedly damaged on July 23. The owners of Stop & Go Food Mart, 612 Main St., told officers someone made a small hole in the center of the glass sometime overnight. But they also confirmed no entry was made and nothing was missing.
Outdoor furniture stolen
A Vincent Drive woman reported her $3,000 antique patio and chair set stolen on July 19. She told officers she last saw the set on July 10 and when she returned home from vacation it was missing.
Threatening texts
Officers on patrol in the Captains Hill Road area July 20 were flagged down by a 59-year-old Monroe man just after 3 p.m., who told them he received threatening texts from someone demanding $3,000, while also sending disturbing photos with violent images.
The texter, who the victim does not know, told the man he was going to send people to kill him and his family, according to the report.
Police are investigating.
