Tristan Smith led the Masuk boys track team to a 12th place finish at the state class MM meet, scoring all 16 of the team’s points. Smith topped his own shot put school record with a 58’6” effort, taking second place as both of the top two finishers broke the meet record.

He then followed that up with another second place finish in the discus with a throw of 157’8”.

At the state open meet, Smith took 4th in the shotput and second in the discus, just missing first place by a mere 2”. His total of 13 points brought Masuk into 16th place out of more than 100 schools competing and he will be moving on to the New England championships this weekend in New Hampshire.

“His records are likely to stand at Masuk for a very long time and he will be remembered as one of the very best athletes to ever compete for Masuk,” said Masuk Track & Field Coach Terry Tyler.

“The girls also registered a couple of very fine results at the class meet,” he said.

Senior Jessica Attah-Agyeman leapt at personal best of 5 feet in the high jump, tying the winning height, but she had to settle for second based on missed attempts. Attah-Agyeman just missed at 5’2” grazing the bar on the way down.

Junior sprinter Emily Haye captured 7th in the 100 meter dash, and she will return to lead the sprinters next year.
