MONROE, CT — Masuk High School’s highly anticipated production of the electrifying musical “Footloose”, based on the beloved ’80s film that captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, will open this Thursday at 7 p.m.
This will be followed by two more performances on Saturday, March 23, with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
“Footloose” is the second musical produced by Michael Katz, an alum of Masuk’s Class of 2016, and Sharon Bartek is also a producer.
Ren McCormack, played by Ryan Sokira, and his mother, Ethel McCormack, portrayed by Maile Booth, leave the bustling streets of Chicago for the quiet, music-free life of Bomont.
The cast also includes Muriel Bailey as Ariel, Brody Ebner as Reverend Shaw, Olivia Beloblosky as Vi Shaw, Audrey Lesko as Rusty, Holly Torigian as Urleen, and Adeline Kellogg as Wendy Jo.
Special recognition goes to graduating seniors: Maile Booth, Audrey Lesko, and Finneas Pinkey, whose talent and dedication have shone brightly throughout their years at Masuk.

Jokes My Father Told Me
David Kane’s Jokes My Father Told Me, a comedy show fundraiser for the Monroe Rotary Club, will be held at Rexford House at Monroe Congregational Church, 34 Church St., on Saturday, March 23.
The doors open at 6 p.m. and showtime is at 6:30 p.m.
Comedian David Krane will deliver one-liners and tell stories celebrating the warmth and resilience of the Irish sense of humor. Bring your own food and adult beverages.

Judd Road bridge replacement
The town of Monroe will host a public information meeting about a project to replace the bridge on Judd Road, over Mill River, in the Council Chambers of Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road, on Monday, April 15, at 6 p.m.
This is a joint project between the towns of Monroe and Easton.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide information to the residents of both towns on topics, such as where residents can expect to obtain project updates, the anticipated construction date, anticipated construction timeline, and potential traffic detours.
Penguin Plunge
The Penguin Plunge, an annual fundraiser organized by the Monroe Police Department to benefit Special Olympics Connecticut’s athletes, will be held at Great Hollow Lake on Saturday, April 13.

Speed Networking
The Monroe and Greater Valley chambers of commerce are co-sponsoring the 11th annual Speed Networking event at Whitney Farms, 175 Shelton Road in Monroe, on Wednesday, March 20, from 4:45 to 7:30 p.m.
Organizers tout this event as an opportunity to make more contacts in two hours than some people make in an entire year. Speed Networking is designed to bring you face-to-face with each business contact in the room by sharing your “60-second” elevator pitch during eight rounds.
Admission is $49 per person, which includes the chance to meet 49 contacts, the first drink (then it is a cash bar), appetizers, dessert, coffee or tea. Attendance is limited to one representative per company.

Monroe Lions Shred Day
The Monroe Lions Club is holding paper shredding and electronic equipment discarding fundraiser in the Rite Aid pharmacy parking lot, 435 Main Street in Monroe, on Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.
This event gives participants the opportunity to rid themselves of all types of paper records (except spiral binders) and outdated computer and electronic equipment.
“The Monroe community will benefit from the funds raised, while cleaning their houses,” said Lions Club President Frank Bent.
Requested donations to the nonprofit are $15 per box of paper — any size. The donation sought for cell phones is $10. Donations for electronic equipment starts at $10 and greater amounts depend on type and size.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, a community awareness event where men and boys take the first step to end violence against women and girls, will be begin at the train station in downtown Fairfield on April 27, with registration at 8 a.m. and the walk at 9 a.m. — high heels are optional.
Everyone is welcome to participate in The Center for Family Justice’s annual event, which raises critical financial support for CFJ’s Elizabeth M. Pfriem Camp HOPE America-Bridgeport and its Pathways to HOPE mentoring program.

Bassick Class Reunion
Did you graduate from or teach at Bassick High School in Bridgeport in 1974? The Bassick High School Class of 1974 is looking for you as it plans a 50th class reunion on Sept. 7 at the 19th Hole, 2390 Easton Turnpike, Fairfield, from 6 to 10 p.m.
“We’ve been able to contact a number of Bassick graduates as well as some of our favorite teachers already, but there are many more we still need to reach,” said Julie Reynolds LaVigne, one of the organizers.
Anna Loper, another organizer, said a small planning committee was formed this year to arrange the 50th reunion to begin tracking down classmates, but hopes others in the community can help the group locate more.
