Double hat-trick for Kondub, first goal by DeSanto as Panthers win playoff game

Nick Kondub scored six goals in a 7-0 state tourney game victory.

SHELTON, CT — Nick Kondub scored six goals — a double hat-trick — as the Masuk High hockey team toppled the Joel Barlow-Weston-Abbott Tech (JBWA) co-op 7-0 in the Division III State Tournament’s first round at the Rinks at Shelton on Monday.

Masuk is the No.4 team and JBWA the No. 13 seed.

Kondub reached the 50 goal milestone this the season with his net-finders. Chase DeSanto had the other goal, the first of his high school career.

Luke Kondub and Christian LaBella both had a trio of assists. James Cybart had two assists, and Connor Ewald, Ryan Ewald and Nick Kondub each had one assist.

Chase DeSanto, pictured in action this winter, scored his first high school goal in Masuk’s state playoff win on Monday.

Goaltender Maddex LaFountain was in net and earned the shutout.

With the win the Panthers skate into the quarterfinals Thursday, March 7. Masuk takes on No. 5 E.O. Smith-Tolland at Trinity College in Hartford starting at 6:30 p.m.
