MONROE, CT — A 59-year-old Southbury man woke up to a DUI Saturday afternoon, after police responded to the call of a someone sleeping in the Tollgate Plaza parking lot, 838 Main St.
An officer knocked on the window of the man’s gray Honda Civic to wake him up, and police said the officer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver while talking to him, adding he also had a slurred speech.
The driver told officers he was at El Coyote Restaurant and had two margaritas, before returning to his car around two hours ago. In a subsequent search of the vehicle, police found two full nip bottles of Smirnoff Vodka in the center console, according to the report.
When officers asked the driver to step out of his vehicle, he had a difficult time balancing himself while walking toward the back of the car, and he was walking abnormally, police said. Field sobriety tests were not performed to standard leading to his arrest.
At police headquarters, his blood alcohol level was 0.2112, then rose to 0.2156 on the second test taken 20 minutes later, police said. The legal limit in Connecticut is 0.08.
The man was released after posting 10 percent of his $500 bond and he has an Oct. 16 court date.
The incident took place around 3:11 p.m.
Moosic, Pennsylvania
A 60-year-old Monroe man told police someone used his information to open an AT&T account in his name and order a new cellphone, according to a complaint made Sunday.
AT&T contacted the victim about the new account and shipping for the order, and he told the company he did not open an account or order a new phone. He opened a fraud claim with AT&T and needed a police report for the case number.
AT&T showed order confirmation with a tracking number for a delivery address in Moosic, Penn. The order was made with no delivery date or payment information.
Police contacted the Moosic Police Department, which told them the address had a house under renovation and the homeowners weren’t living there.
No fraudulent charges were made to the victim’s credit or debit cards and Monroe police told him to contact AT&T to get for more information on what was used to open the fraudulent account. The case is still under investigation.
Spin out on Hattertown
A 40-year-old Danbury man escaped injury after his 2007 GMC Savana began to spin out in the rain Friday morning, before coming to rest with the rear end over an embankment on the north side of Hattertown Road.
Police said the driver lost traction while going through the “S” curve near Guinea Road as he headed south on Hattertown Road around 8:46 a.m.
Jim’s Auto towed the vehicle, putting it back on the road.
Firefighters also responded to the call.
