Masuk girls lacrosse battles Staples; softball team tops Fitch

MONROE, CT — The Staples High girls lacrosse team tangled with visiting Staples and came up just short in a 6-4 decision on Saturday.

Bailey Bajda, Lilly Cameron, Grace Kearney and Charlotte Pinto each scored for the Panthers. Goalie Sophie Clark made 15 saves to keep the Panthers in the game.

Staples was led by Keira Best with three goals and Jaden Mello with two.

Masuk will visit Joel Barlow on Tuesday, April 18 at 7 p.m. and return home Saturday, April 22 to face Immaculate of Danbury at 12:45.

Masuk softball doubles up Fitch

GROTON, CT — Masuk High’s softball team went on the road and defeated Fitch 4-2 on Saturday.

Julia Bacoulis allowed two runs on four hits, walked four and struck out 10.

Ella Bunovsky had a single and drove in a run. Izzy Viglione was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs batted in. Alyssa Castillo went 2-for-4 with a single and double.

The Panthers, 4-1, host Brookfield this Monday, April 17, at 4:15 p.m.
