MONROE, CT — The Monroe Police Department’s Detective Division is investigating the thefts of close to $36,000 worth of construction materials and equipment, following two burglaries reported on Friday, Dec. 30.
On Friday morning, officers met with a property owner on Pinnacle Drive, a 64-year-old Easton man, who uses his land to store construction materials, such as steel I-beams, metal roof trusses and pipes of various sizes.
Police said someone had cut an area of chain link fence surrounding the property, and cut one of the posts to gain entry.
The victim told officers heavy equipment must have been used to move the $16,000 worth of materials that were stolen.
Later that morning, officers met with a 66-year-old Woodbridge man, who works for the company building the Cutlers Farm Crossing housing development off Purdy Hill Road.
He told officers someone forcibly entered several buildings on Prestige Place, a new street, between 6 p.m. on Dec. 29 and 7 a.m. on Dec. 30, and stole $10,000 to $20,000 worth of construction equipment that was stored there.
Metal saws, generators, spools of nails and various tools were taken, police said, adding the owner is doing a complete inventory to determine exactly what is missing.
Theft attempts
Officers responded to the report of a suspicious male checking car doors on Kettle Creek Lane at 1:28 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31.
Police said they could not find the suspect, described as a Black male in his teens or 20s, driving a white sedan.
Officers found one car with its door open and dome lights on at nearby Saddle Hill Road and learned it was entered, though nothing was reported stolen, according to the report.
