Stolen catalytic converter leads to a noisy ride in a Kia

MONROE, CT — A woman drove away from The Goddard School on Monroe Turnpike in her Kia on Dec. 13, when she noticed it was making a loud noise. When she took her car to a mechanic, he told her someone removed her catalytic converter with a sawzall, according to police.

She filed a police complaint Wednesday.

Police said the theft occurred sometime between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 13. The estimated value of the stolen catalytic converter is $540.

Police said thieves commonly steal catalytic converters to sell the metal.
