Save Our Stepney Tree Lighting, Frosty the Snowman coming Dec. 3

Frosty the Snowman gets rockstar treatment from his young fans at the Save Our Stepney Task Force's 21st annual Tree Lighting last year.

MONROE, CT —The Save Our Stepney (SOS) Task Force and Frosty the Snowman will light up the Stepney Green, at the intersection of routes 59 and 25, on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., with more than 300 luminaries, and the holiday tree will be decorated with over 500 LED bulbs. The rain date is Sunday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.

Members of Save Our Stepney Task Force, the Stepney Volunteer Fire Company, Stepney Baptist Church, and Frosty the Snowman, will help to celebrate the 22nd annual tree lighting.

In commemoration of the town of Monroe’s 2023 Bicentennial, a guest couple will make an appearance with the reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.

New this year will be the Pyramid Shrine Temple Motor Patrol and the Pyramid Shrine Temple Klowns. Join Stepney clown Casey and the other clowns making balloon animals. Children will also have an opportunity to have their picture taken in a real live Shriner Motor Patrol car under the tree.

First Selectman Ken Kellogg will welcome the community to the annual event, which will feature holiday music performed by the Just Voices Singers under the direction of Mike Pelligrino.

Monroe Boy Scout Troop 62 will provide fresh made donuts. The Rev. Kevin Merritt, of Stepney Baptist Church, invites all attendees to a carol sing in the church immediately following the tree lighting. Hot chocolate and fresh baked cookies will be served.

Frosty the Snowman will make a special appearance aboard a Stepney Volunteer Fire Company truck at the invitation of SOS to flip the tree light switch ushering in the holiday season. Candy canes and glow sticks will be given to all to welcome Frosty.

Save Our Stepney Task Force welcomes donations from all members of the Monroe community for the lighting program. Send an email to Kathie Loehr at [email protected] for tree lighting details.

  1. Just to clarify…the Monroe Boy Scout Troop is #62 not #162, thank you. Let’s give credit where credit is due.
