MONROE, CT — Police officers responded to a vandalism complaint on Ryegate Terrace Sunday morning. A black mailbox had been pulled out of the ground and stood up in the road, while still intact with its post, according to police.
Vandals did the same thing to two other mailboxes on the street, but because there was no damage or financial loss, all of the homeowners declined to lodge formal complaints, police said.
That same morning, officers found a town of Monroe sign that was pulled out of the ground on Lyndon Street and left lying down at the corner of Ryegate Terrace. Police notified the Monroe Public Works Department to reinstall the sign.
DUI on Northbrook Drive
A police officer following up on a complaint of an erratic driver in a pickup truck on Main Street Saturday evening observed a tan Toyota Tacoma parked on Northbrook Drive that fit the description, according to the report.
The driver, a 56-year-old Bridgeport man, was sleeping with the truck running, police said. Officers woke him up and observed he had glassy eyes and that the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanated from him, police said.
Field sobriety tests determined he was under the influence. He was charged with DUI and released on $500 bond for an April 18 court date.
The incident occurred around 5:21 p.m.
