Police Reports: Beware of purse snatchers

MONROE, CT — A woman was in the Clock Tower Square parking lot late Monday afternoon, when she got into her car through the driver’s side of her vehicle and placed her purse on the passenger seat. Suddenly, a white man wearing a black ski mask opened the passenger door and stole her purse, according to police.

The man got into the passenger side of a black SUV and the driver drove off, police said, adding the victim was unable to get the make or model of the getaway vehicle.

Lt. Stephen Corrone said a black SUV has been linked to similar incidents in Newtown, Trumbull and Easton.

The Monroe incident occurred around 4 p.m.

Theft of jewelry

An Overlook Drive woman reported the theft of $,9,500 worth of jewelry from her home Sunday.

Police said she was looking through her jewelry when she noticed some pieces were missing. The incident is under investigation.

Cut and slashed

A woman visiting someone on Bagburn Road Friday night, parked her Mercedes C300 there. The next morning, police said a resident told her a window was broken and the front seats of the vehicle were cut and slashed.

Mailbox vandals

A Countryside Drive resident told police he saw two male teenagers trying to pull two mailboxes out of the ground Friday night and yelled at them, before they got into a vehicle and took off.

The incident occurred around  9:42 p.m.
