Police recover stolen Audi A3 in Stamford

MONROE, CT — Police are still looking for a man who bought a 2015 Audi A3 with a bogus $17,500 check, though the vehicle was later recovered in Stamford. A local man reported the theft Friday, after selling his vehicle through Facebook Marketplace, then discovering the check was fraudulent.

Police said the transaction took place in a parking lot on Main Street and the suspect drove off with the Audi A3, which still had the seller’s license plate.

Monroe police broadcast the theft to other area departments and Stamford police recovered the vehicle and arrested the driver and passenger, charging them with possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the report.

However, neither was identified as the man who bought the Audi with the fraudulent check. The incident remains under investigation.

Police remind residents there is a safe exchange area with a camera in the Monroe Police Department parking lot, on the Church Street side, where people can meet for transactions as a precaution.

Crash into a utility pole

An 18-year-old Redding woman escaped injury after losing control of a 2015 Volvo V60 on Judd Road, going up an embankment and striking a utility pole Saturday afternoon.

She told officers she entered a curve and accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, police said of the accident, which occurred around 2:51 p.m. when the driver was heading west. The vehicle ended up on the west side of the road, according to the report.

Monroe Emergency Medical Service personnel evaluated the driver after the incident, but she had no apparent injuries, police said, adding the Volvo was towed. Frontier repaired the damaged utility pole.

Police said that part of Judd Road, at Stanley Road, is the site of frequent crashes, mainly caused by vehicles traveling at excessive speeds. Officers remind drivers to slow down.

  1. Just like the Tiger Woods crash. Was it driver error OR the way WE FORCED them to brake an automatic or electric vehicle? Yet another Type 1 or Type 2 right foot pedal error? Happens to drivers of ALL, repeat ALL ages and gender. Happens 40,000 times each day! This is not that complicated. ‘A vehicle did not stop in time’. 19 pedestrians and cyclists will die today because of the right foot braking method and no one in charge wants to test its validity. Why are those in charge at NHTSA and the CONNECTICUT GOVERNORS HIGHWAY SAFETY ASSOCIATION (GHSA) not wanting to (via the BTSCRP program), SCIENTIFICALLY compare the right foot braking method with the safer, easier to learn and retain with age, Left Foot Braking Method and either prove it inadequate or adopt it? ‘That’s the way it’s always been taught’, is not a SCIENTIFIC justification. It’s just Tradition and Testosterone. Note: Simply using your left foot to brake is NOT repeat NOT the Left Foot Braking Method. leftfootbraking.org
