Monroe man finishes 1st in Swim Across the Sound for 2nd year in a row
Joey Nizzardo, of Monroe, came in first in Hartford HealthCare/St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound for the second year in a row. He dedicated his 15.5 miles to all his family members who have lost their lives to cancer and to his grandpa who is currently battling the disease. Nizzardo’s time was six hours, 36 minutes and 56 seconds. On Saturday, nearly 200 swimmers swam across Long Island Sound, protected by a fleet of 90 escort boats, perimeter boats, and law enforcement, fire, rescue and Coast Guard boats.
