MONROE, CT — Monroe’s 200th birthday is May 23, 2023 and the Bicentennial Committee is planning a celebration involving every section of town, its schools, community groups, businesses, places of worship and the public at large.

Vida Stone, of the Monroe Bicentennial Committee, said the kickoff will be at the end of May.

The committee is still in the planning stages for the momentous year and its members welcome input from the public. Suggestions and offers to volunteer are welcome, according to Stone.

To share input on the celebration of Monroe’s history, emails may be sent to [email protected].

Check the town website for the next committee meeting in July. The event will be open to the public.

First Selectman Ken Kellogg established the Bicentennial Committee to guide the town in planning this celebration. Its members include Vida Stone, Dee Dee Martin, Lee Hossler, Paul Moyse, Kelly Plunkett, Amy Primorac, Brian Quinn, Terry Rooney and Dona-Lyn Wales.
